No comic day, but with good reason

December 15, 2010
5:50 AM

Hey guys! Well, I wasn’t initially planning on this being a no-comic day, but events conspired to make it one, and I’m not generally too good at taking on events in a fair fight. They always fight dirty.

See, Liz is sending in her portfolio this week to be graded, though she’s already received pretty high marks from her teacher, so we already know it’s going to do well. (It’s a bitchin’ portfolio. We’ll have to get some nice pictures of it to post.) Anyway, part of this is that she also had to send in a complete stationery/business materials set, and THAT… we had to make our own damned selves. Lots of printing, cutting, and cursing. Not necessarily in that order.

But see, here’s where things get a little more interesting. Last week, her instructor tells her that he’s managed to get her into the school’s Winter Show this friday. I can’t remember if I mentioned it when it happened, but Liz was also included in her school’s Spring show this year as well, which is a pretty big deal. Thousands of students are in the school, but only a handful from each area get picked, and she was one of ’em. So for her to be in the Spring show was huge, and for her to be in both that AND the Winter Show is just phenomenal. BUT… it gets even cooler. We hear along the grapevine that Liz is actually the first online student that has EVER been invited to participate in the Winter Show. Like, ever, ever. So yeah, that’s pretty huge.

However, it does represent a bit more time and financial investment. Instead of just printing 2 copies of her business stuff to send to the school, we had to print 6. And in ADDITION, she needs to bring about TWENTY FIVE sets with her on Friday, in order to hand out to potential employers/clients. And since we can’t really afford to get them printed and taken care of somewhere, the printing duties fell to us. So from about 7 pm until 1 am, we were over at Liz’ office printing, cutting, and cursing. And then when we got home, I had to spend additional time preparing 6 custom envelopes for her postcards. All told, it’s just freakin’ exhausting, and now I sit here looking at a clock that says 2:49 AM, and I know that I need to be awake in a scant 4 hours to go to work tomorrow.

If I get the gumption to do so, I may fill in the comic blank tomorrow or the next day, ’cause I have it all written in my head, and it kinda flows together as one bit, but we’ll see how my energy level sits. I’m just glad this is her last freakin’ week of school. EVER. Holy god I am so happy for that.
