Oh mans, I was supposed to have posted about this days ago! I feel like I’ve hardly spent any time in front of my computer lately – work’s been kickin’ my butt, and I’ve just been trying to sneak as much free time with Liz as possible, but this is a pretty big deal, and I want to make sure it gets some notice!
You may or may not know who Pat Rothfuss is, but if I’ve had anything to say about it recently, you SHOULD know that he’s the author of what became one of my favorite books of ALL TIME, The Name of the Wind. It’s an epic, and the first of a TRILOGY that is shaping up to be pretty freaking spectacular. He sent me a copy of his book as a reader of mine, and turned me into a RAVING fan of his, and after we got to meet at Comic Con a few years back, I’d like to consider him a friend.
Well, in any case, one of the awesome things he does every year is hold a massive, month-long series of charity auctions and donation drives called Worldbuilders, which benefits Heifer International – a charity which helps people in poverty raise themselves up, as well as supporting their local community. It’s good work, and he has the connections with people who donate awesome enough stuff to make it an amazing success. Well, this year he poked me and asked if I had anything cool to donate to the cause, and while trying to figure it out, he actually suggested a great idea – an auction to be included IN the comic itself! I thought it was a great idea, and it also gives me a chance to work with someone and come up with something funny and some way to include them that makes it worthwhile, as well as entertaining for everyone else. So, for the next few days, you have the chance to bid on a spot IN THE COMIC! The auction was set up by Pat, and goes directly to the WorldBuilders fund.
Here’s the specifics: The winner, in addition to being included in at least one comic, (the details of which will be discussed after the auction is over) will also receive a high-quality, framed version of the comic they were included in, signed and stamped with the official Real Life Seal of Awesometicity. And that’s not all… if the auction is successful enough, I may even consider including you in a longer-form storyline, provided I can work out something that doesn’t come off as too forced. See, I think there’s no real loser in this kind of a scenario. As long as you’re hip to a little bit of fun degradation, (let’s be honest, everyone in my comic gets ripped on at some point or another) I can come up with something that can make people laugh, and that’s what matters to me. And doing it in the name of literally pulling people up out of poverty? Well, I’ll be damned if that doesn’t sound pretty win-win to me.
So hurry on over to ebay and throw your name in for this once-in-a-long-while opportunity! (I won’t say once in a lifetime, because I’m not going to rule out the chances of this happening again sometime in the future. That would just be silly. What am I, some kind of a fortune teller?)
